Configuring Dynatrace OpenTelemetry Connection in PowerConnect

Description

Starting from PowerConnect 8.02, it is possible to send OpenTelemetry traces to Dynatrace. At the moment it requires NW 7.50+ or S/4HANA platforms to collect necessary data.

!It is recommended to send only OpenTelemetry Traces via OpenTelemetry endpoint. Logs still should be send using regular Dynatrace Log connection.

Following steps needs to be performed to get it setup:

1. Upload Dynatrace certificate into STRUST (if not yet done).

2. Administrator->Connection Setup->Upload Scheme
   

   

3. On the right side of the screen press Create OpenTelemetry endpoint
   

   

4. Populate connection details
   

   

5. Check the connection
   

   

   
   In case error message is shown, troubleshooting might be required to ensure outbound connectivity is allowed and SSL is setup properly.

6. Create Group Definition filter to limit send only trace data
   a. Open Event Types Filter using the button below (left side of the screen)

   

   b. Populate Filter name and description like shown on the screen

   

   c. Press the button in Group Def column
   
   d. Define following filter criteria and confirm

   

   e. Save the Filter maintenance dialog and use green confirmation button to close the screen
   

   

7. Drag and drop the endpoint from the right side of the screen to the Default Scheme node on left side of the screen. Set the Active flag and populate the filter as shown below:
   

   

   Filter definition is mandatory for this endpoint!

8. Confirm the dialog and Save changes.
