Upgrading/Migrating SAP with PowerConnect Installed

Prior to SAP migrations or major upgrades (S/4 1605 → S/4 1909), please follow the steps below:

  1. Upgrade PowerConnect to the latest version using the following guides: https://powerconnect.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/POW/pages/2589458346or Upgrading PowerConnect ABAP Agent 7.X to latest release.

  2. Confirm whether an ACP file needs to be applied, and if applicable obtain the ACP file from the following link: ABAP Support Matrix. If applicable, apply the ACP file using the following KB article: KB 121 - Apply Attribute Change Package.

  3. Upgrade or migrate the SAP system.

(Optional) If migrating from a NetWeaver-based system (e.g. ECC) → S/4 HANA also complete the following steps:

The path with full addon reinstall:

  1. Export PowerConnect configuration according to KB 148 - Export/Import PowerConnect configurations

  2. Uninstall PowerConnect

  3. Reinstall latest S/4 compatible PowerConnect version

  4. Restore PowerConnect configuration using KB 148 - Export/Import PowerConnect configurations

In case the current PowerConnect version is 6.* it is possible to use the following upgrade path:

  1. Upgrade PowerConnect 6.* for NW stack to SP 6.10 using the following guide: Upgrading PowerConnect ABAP Agent 6.X to latest release.

  2. Share source and target system component versions with SoftwareONE team (support@powerconnect.io) to get ACP file.

  3. Apply the ACP file using the following KB article: KB 121 - Apply Attribute Change Package.

  4. Upgrade or migrate the SAP system. SUM might need to be restarted in case ACP was applied in the middle of SUM process.

  5. Install PowerConnect 7.* addon for S/4HANA on top of existing one.

In case the current PowerConnect version is 7.* it is possible to use the following upgrade path:

  1. Upgrade PowerConnect 7.* for NW stack to SP 7.04 using the following guide: Upgrading PowerConnect ABAP Agent 7.X to latest release.

  2. Share source and target system component versions with SoftwareONE team (support@powerconnect.io) to get ACP file.

  3. Apply the ACP file using the following KB article: KB 121 - Apply Attribute Change Package.

  4. Upgrade or migrate the SAP system. SUM might need to be restarted in case ACP was applied in the middle of SUM process.

  5. Install PowerConnect 8.* addon for S/4HANA on top of existing one.
