PowerConnect Licensing Model
This document outlines the licensing model for PowerConnect Cloud, ensuring clarity and transparency regarding how licenses are applied to different environments and tenants.
Overview of Licensing
PowerConnect uses a per-plugin, per-tenant licensing model. Each plugin corresponds to a specific SAP Cloud Product or feature, such as SuccessFactors, Ariba, or CPI. Licenses are required for each production tenant where the plugin is utilized, as well as the deployment of the PowerConnect Cloud software.
Production Tenant Licensing
Licenses are required per production tenant for each plugin:
If a plugin is used on multiple production tenants, each tenant requires a separate license.
If multiple plugins are used on the same production tenant, each plugin requires its own license.
Licenses are tied to specific deployments of PowerConnect Cloud:
If additional teams or departments within the same organization require separate deployments of PowerConnect Cloud, each deployment incurs its own licensing requirements, including a base tenant license.
Example:
You have two production Ariba tenants and one production SuccessFactors tenant, managed under a single deployment of PowerConnect Cloud.
You would need 3 licenses: two for Ariba and one for SuccessFactors.
If another team requires a separate deployment of PowerConnect Cloud:
The second deployment would also incur its own base tenant license and any additional licenses for its plugins and tenants.
Test Environment Licensing
Test environments are included free of charge when you purchase a license for the corresponding production tenant.
For each licensed production tenant, an equivalent test tenant license is provided at no additional cost.
This allows for testing and validation without incurring extra licensing fees.
PowerConnect Cloud Test Deployments are also provided free of charge.
If your organization requires a test instance of PowerConnect Cloud for validation, it does not incur any additional licensing fees.
Example:
You have one production CPI tenant and a corresponding test tenant.
You only need 1 license for the production tenant, as the test tenant is included.
You deploy a test version of PowerConnect Cloud for validation.
The test deployment does not require any additional licensing.
Deployment-Specific Licensing
A deployment refers to an instance of the PowerConnect Cloud software within your organization.
Licenses are specific to each deployment:
If a new deployment is created for another team, department, or use case, that deployment requires its own set of licenses.
This includes a base tenant charge for the first production tenant and additional licenses for any other plugins and tenants used in the deployment.
Test deployments are free and do not incur additional licensing costs.
Example:
Deployment 1 (Production):
Team A uses PowerConnect Cloud for two production Ariba tenants and one production SuccessFactors tenant.
Total licenses: 3.
Deployment 2 (Production):
Team B creates a separate deployment of PowerConnect Cloud for one production Ariba tenant and one production SuccessFactors tenant.
Total licenses for Deployment 2: 2, including the base tenant charge.
Deployment 3 (Test):
A test instance of PowerConnect Cloud is deployed for validation.
No additional licenses are required for the test deployment.
Summary of Licensing Requirements
Dimension | Licensing Requirement |
---|---|
Production Tenant | One license per plugin per tenant. |
Test Tenant | Included free with the production license for the corresponding tenant. |
Deployment | Separate deployments require their own set of licenses, including a base tenant charge for production. Test deployments are free. |
Examples
Single Deployment, Multiple Tenants:
Team A uses the CPI Messages plugin on two production tenants.
Team A would require 2 licenses for their deployment.
Multiple Deployments:
Team A uses the Ariba plugin on two production tenants.
Team B requires a separate deployment of PowerConnect Cloud and uses the Ariba plugin on one production tenant.
Team A would require 2 licenses, and Team B would require 1 license, including the base tenant charge for their separate deployment.
Team A deploys a test instance of PowerConnect Cloud.
No additional licenses are required for the test deployment.
Production and Test Environments:
Team A uses the SuccessFactors Users plugin on one production tenant and its corresponding test tenant.
Team A would require 1 license, as the test tenant is included for free.
